Unemployed in America
By Glenn Cappuccio
The unemployment rate has finally begun to fall! Yet it is still at an all-time high. Some people have not only lost there jobs but there homes as well. The homeless rate in America has gone up across the country with no relief in site. More people are taking advantage of not only food banks, but soup kitchens as well. Employment is the key to alleviating these current conditions in our country, however for a working class citizen like me this current lapse in employment is beyond comprehension.
I have been employed since I was 8 years old (summer job). I have held many different types of jobs. Some I thoroughly enjoyed and some I just down right hated. But I would gladly take the most hated of my previous positions back just to get away from this terrible predicament.
I have never been out of work for this length of time. Just about 2 years now. I am on the verge of becoming a 99er. Frustration can not begin to describe the feelings that rage through me during a given day. Nevertheless no matter how grim my situation I refuse to give up. After all I am a US veteran and surrender is not an option!
In recent weeks I have had more interviews than in all the past 2 years, but still no job. I have 3 different head hunters in my corner that I contact at least 4 times per week. Nothing yet, is an all too common utterance. So I am apply for any position I can get in hopes of returning to the work force in a different light. One can only hope.
